CLIENT CHALLENGE
The client was a local industrial developer building a heavy manufacturing workshop near Riyadh. They faced several hard problems. The required 36 meter clear span had to support two 20 ton overhead cranes running full time, which pushed the load far beyond ordinary light gauge buildings. The site sat near the coast, so corrosion resistance was a must under the harsh desert and humid coastal climate. The local building authority required strict code compliance and stamped structural drawings, and the main contractor needed the whole building finished fast to meet production start dates. Drawing detailing and connection design were also difficult to handle locally.
CUSTOMIZED SOLUTION
We delivered a fully integrated engineering, fabrication and export package. Our BIM team built the complete 3D model, ran structural analysis and produced the full shop and erection drawings stamped for AISC and EN 1090. For the main frame we used Q460 high strength heavy steel, which cut column weight while meeting the heavy crane load. The workshop was designed as a combined portal and rigid frame to achieve the long span clear interior. All steel was cut by CNC, welded by automatic welding lines, shot blasted and coated with a heavy duty anti corrosion system suited to coastal exposure. We also provided overseas installation guidance through on site engineers and video support.
PRODUCTION AND DELIVERY
Every piece of steel went through CNC plasma and laser cutting, automatic submerged arc welding, mechanical shot blasting to SA 2.5 and multi coat industrial painting. The whole structure was pre assembled in our factory to check fit before packing. Components were marked, wrapped and loaded into containers, then shipped from Qingdao port to Jeddah.
FINAL OUTCOME
The workshop now stands complete with two 20 ton overhead cranes running smoothly along the full length. The exterior shows clean straight lines and durable industrial coating, and the interior offers a wide unobstructed floor ready for heavy production lines. The building was handed over on schedule and has been in stable operation.
VALUE SUMMARY
Compared with the client's original budget, the optimized Q460 design saved overall steel cost and shortened the construction window on site. The building fully meets AISC, EN 1090 and Saudi Building Code requirements. Our heavy duty coating system is backed by a 30 year corrosion protection guarantee, giving the asset long term value in a harsh coastal climate.
